Emerging Artist Program

Maker House’s Emerging Artist Program is designed to support and uplift developing ceramic artists by providing studio access, education, and community engagement.

This summer, selected artists will receive a three-month studio membership and a complimentary 8-week ceramics class, offering the time and resources to refine their practice, experiment with new ideas, and grow in a supportive environment.

Program Dates: June 23rd - September 14th, 2025

Eligibility and Application

  • The Emerging Artist Program is open to artists who identify as emerging in their ceramic practice. Prior ceramics experience is highly recommended but not required.

  • Applicants must submit a completed application form, which includes a brief artist statement, portfolio images (if available), and class preferences.

  • Application deadline: June 1, 2025, at 11:59 PM

  • Applicants will be notified of decisions by June 5th 

  • First-time applicants may receive priority.

What the Program Includes

  • A 12-week studio membership at Maker House, including access to professional tools and equipment (clay sold separately). Membership includes access to all glazes and unlimited firings.

  • Enrollment in one 8-week ceramics class (or two 4-week sessions). Class options include handbuilding or wheel throwing.

  • Participation in a supportive artistic community, with regular critique sessions and peer connection.

  • Informal mentorship and guidance from experienced ceramicists and education staff.

Policies and Expectations

  • Artists must commit to participating in both the studio component and the educational class component of the program.

  • Artists are expected to spend a minimum of 10 hours a week in the studio.

  • Studio use is limited to the membership period from June 23rd - September 14th.

  • Artists are responsible for purchasing their own clay and any additional materials not included with membership or class.

  • Regular attendance and active engagement are expected throughout the program. Missed sessions may affect eligibility for future opportunities.

  • Artists are encouraged to attend critiques and community events offered during the program.

  • If an artist is unable to participate after acceptance, they must notify Maker House at least two weeks before the start of the program. Failure to do so may impact eligibility for future programs.

Additional Notes

  • Classes must meet minimum enrollment to run. If a chosen class is canceled, Maker House will offer an alternative option.

  • Program benefits (studio access and class enrollment) are not transferable.

  • Maker House reserves the right to modify program offerings based on availability, capacity, and community needs.
