We walked in to the historic Bates Mansion two years ago with a vision to build a space that would be a reflection of our community. A place to learn and grow with a focus on STEAM, artists, makers, hackers and Tucsonans. Together we accomplished that incredible goal, but at great cost. Many staff members worked in excess of 70 hours a week and eventually it became clear that 40 programs and events a week was not sustainable. It’s now time to give the Maker House brand over to the community that built it.
We remain open for business for the next month from 5 p.m. to close (late) and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to close (late) and will throw one last celebration with you on April 11th with our “Open Source and Out” event.
We respect the importance and history of the Bates Mansion and its significance in our community and we’re honored to have had the opportunity to open the space to the public and shared it with with so many.
